3D-printing articulated and reconfigurable clay walls
The building processes of today’s architecture are among humans' most contaminating activities. How can architects and engineers help change this? In this workshop, we introduce the topic of earthen construction enhanced with digital fabrication. Focusing on a real-world construction project, we aim to investigate the importance of architects and engineers in initiating change for a more sustainable future. This year, we explore the potential of building components made from 3D-printed clay modules to design highly articulated and reconfigurable wall elements. The Winter School is an interdisciplinary collaboration between the Mendrisio Academy, the ZHAW Institute for Building Technology and Process, and selected industry partners.
