Die Arbeitsmarktbeteiligung älterer Arbeitnehmender ist in den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten deutlich gestiegen und ein immer grösserer Anteil der Bevölkerung arbeitet über das offizielle Rentenalter hinaus. Doch welche gesellschaftlichen und individuellen Faktoren stehen hinter dieser Entwicklung? Welche gesundheitlichen Folgen hat dies, insbesondere für diejenigen, die länger arbeiten müssen? In Ihrer Antrittsvorlesung stellt Isabel Baumann zentrale Ergebnisse Ihrer Forschung vor. Sie erörtert, wie Unterschiede zwischen sozioökonomischen Gruppen gesundheitliche Ungleichheiten verstärken können und welche Fragen sich daraus für das Forschungsfeld Public Health ergeben. Sie diskutiert zudem, wie Studien zum Setting Arbeit in der Public Health-Forschung gestaltet werden könnten, um kausale Zusammenhänge zu untersuchen.

Prof. Dr. Isabel Baumann studierte an der Universität Fribourg Soziologie, politische Ökonomie und Sozialanthropologie. 2015 promovierte sie an der Universität Lausanne im Bereich Arbeitsmarktsoziologie mit einer Studie über die Auswirkungen von Massenentlassungen auf die Arbeitnehmenden. Seither ist Isabel Baumann als Forschende und Lehrende an der ZHAW tätig mit thematischen Schwerpunkten im Schnittbereich zwischen Arbeitsmarkt- und Public Health-Forschung. Von 2019-2024 war sie Ambizione-Stipendiantin des Schweizerischen Nationalfonds. Verschiedene Stationen ihres Lebenslaufes führten sie ins Ausland. So war sie im Rahmen von Freiwilligeneinsätzen, Feldforschung und universitären Forschungsaufenthalten in Mali, Madagaskar, Schweden und den USA. Es ist ihr daher bei Ihrer Forschungs- und Lehrtätigkeit ein Anliegen, «über den Tellerrand hinauszublicken» und auch von Erfahrungen aus anderen Ländern zu lernen.

Patient-centred outcome measures are a form of outcome measure that can signal a clinically relevant and important change in a person’s condition. They comprise standardised validated questionnaires that are completed by patients or proxies, e.g. family caregivers or healthcare staff. Internationally, there is a growing emphasis on outcome measurement rather than process assessment to understand the effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, and quality of healthcare for individual patients, their families, and on the population level. In this lecture, I will focus on the aspects that ensure high quality of outcome measures in terms of these tools measuring what they purport to measure (validity), doing so in a reproducible way with minimal measurement error (reliability), and being able to accurately measure change over time. We will delve into the new and exciting methodological approaches that have been developed over the last decade and that can help us to measure aspects of patient-centred care in a more meaningful way. Finally, I will explore how outcome measures can be applied in two settings, namely palliative care and dementia care.

Prof. Dr. Christina Ramsenthaler has been a senior lecturer and researcher at the ZHAW since 2020. She was awarded the title of professor for the subject “Methodology and Methods”, comprising the areas of research methods, statistics and psychometrics. In addition to her work at the ZHAW, she is a member of the Wolfson Palliative care Research Centre at Hull York Medical School, University of Hull, and the Cicely Saunders Institute of Palliative care, Policy and Rehabilitation at King's College London in England, collaborating in various projects and as a member of the Policy Research Unit in Palliative Care and End of Life Care of the National Institute of Health Research UK. Christina Ramsenthaler studied psychology, palliative care and statistics and psychometrics in Germany, England and Australia. She has won several awards for her research in the field of palliative care & methods. As Principal Investigator (PI), she leads projects on the topic of patient-centered outcome measurement (including the psychometric validation of the Integrated Palliative Care Outcome Scale). She is passionate about the development and implementation of robust and clinically relevant measurement instruments in areas where the assessment of person-centered needs is considered a challenge. As a lecturer, she wants to take away students' fear of numbers and infect them with her passion for quantitative methods in the healthcare professions.
