Lecturer Structural Mechanics/Lightweight Design 60 – 100 %
Within the Light Weight Design LWD group at the Institute of Mechanical Systems IMES, you will continue to expand our activities in applied research and teaching, helping to shape the highly resilient and sustainable lightweight structures of tomorrow.
School: School of Engineering
Starting date: August 2025 or as per agreement
Your role
- Design and implementation of courses in the basic and advanced modules of engineering mechanics at bachelor level and involvement in the further development of the curricula
- Independent acquisition, processing and management of R&D projects including responsibility for results
- Expansion and further development of the competencies in the LWD group within the framework of the IMES strategy
- Active participation in the management of the LWD Group as a member of the management team
Your profile
- University degree in engineering or natural sciences (TH, TU, ETH) with reference to structural mechanics (statics, strength of materials, kinematics/kinetics, numerical methods, lightweight structures or similar)
- Doctorate, preferably with reference to structural mechanics
- Several years of experience in industry with successful work on structural mechanics issues, e.g. in the automotive, railway vehicle or aerospace industry or generally in the design of highly loaded, highly dynamic or safety-relevant structures
- Experience and pleasure in the successful and independent acquisition of larger and complex, also interdisciplinary research projects as well as their technical and commercial management
- Existence of an active network in the Swiss industry
- Mastery of the German language at such a level that lectures can be held in English
This is what we stand for
Zurich University of Applied Sciences ZHAW is one of Switzerland's largest multidisciplinary universities of applied sciences, with over 14'000 students and 3'400 faculty and staff.
The IMES deals with highly loaded structures in three main areas, the main area LWD especially with the structural mechanics of aircraft and railway vehicles as well as highly dynamic loaded structures. The core competencies are the development of weight-optimised structures using numerical methods such as FEM and FSI, explicit FEM simulation with various hydrocodes, multi-physical optimisation as well as design and prototype construction.
ZHAW is committed to gender-mixed and diverse teams in order to promote equality, diversity and innovation. We are also committed to a barrier-free university. We therefore motivate people with disabilities to apply.
