Description
The research project «Communication in Digital Transformation» is designed as a trend study and has been examining the state and development needs of corporate communications in digital transformation every two years since 2018. The guiding principle is a framework developed in the initial study in 2018, which describes the role of corporate communications in digital transformation at three levels (Niederhäuser & Rosenberger, 2018). At the micro level, the study focuses on the digital transformation of the communications department, at the meso level on the function of corporate communications in the transformation process of the entire organization, and at the macro level on creating acceptance for the transformation process in the market and society. This fourth study 2024 is based on an online survey of 115 chief communication officers (CCOs) in German-speaking Switzerland and on 15 in-depth interviews with experts. One particular focus of this year's study was on the use of generative artificial intelligence in corporate communications. It turned out that generative AI is already being used in a variety of ways, albeit mainly in text production and with ChatGPT. The «Agenda for communication in the digital transformation» established in the initial study was again compared with the results and adapted. A new agenda was established for the focus topic Generative AI. These agendas show communication managers the direction in which they should develop corporate communications.
