Sustainability Safari at Borobotics

Discover how the startup Borobotics is revolutionizing the geothermal energy industry with cutting-edge technology that prioritizes both sustainability and urban practicality. Join us as we explore their innovative approach to making geothermal energy more accessible and environmentally friendly.

Borobotics is building a new generation of geothermal drills for use in urban areas. Their drill can operate in very confined spaces (<8m²), with low noise and CO2 emissions, and at a low cost. The goal is to make geothermal energy more accessible and affordable, thereby bringing it to the mass market. As a spin-off of ZHAW, they are based in Runway Incubator at Technopark Winterthur, where they employ 8 people. They are currently in the development phase and starting drilling tests with their second prototype.

About Borobotics

Borobotics is an emerging startup in geothermal drilling. Driven by the vision to tackle sustainability challenges, they developed the innovative geothermal drill “Grabowski”. Their mission is to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy by addressing the traditional challenges of geothermal drilling, such as high energy consumption, costly operations, and large space requirements.

Borobotics approach integrates the drill directly into the borehole, drastically reducing construction costs and environmental impact. Their technology could play a crucial role in the energy transition, especially given the increasing demand for geothermal heat pumps.
