- Gender equality at the ZHAW
- Reconciliation of private and professional life
- Academic accommodations for students with disabilities
- Inclusive language
Gender-diverse and inclusive language
Our School is committed to the use of gender-diverse and inclusive language as part of our culture. The ZHAW has produced guidelines that encourage the conscious yet creative use of language to overcome stereotyping, pejorative terms and negative metaphors or idioms.

LGBTIQ+ at the ZHAW
LGBTIQ+ is a term used to describe a wide spectrum of identities and expressions. It stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex, queer and all other understandings of gender and sexual identities. The presence and participation of LGBTIQ+ individuals and groups enrich university life, make it more diverse and contribute creative and innovative queer resources. An awareness and appreciation of LGBTIQ+ experiences is therefore an important part of our university’s attractiveness.
