If a family member is suffering from a chronic or incurable disease, the entire family is affected. Episodes of illness or critical phases can lead to emotional distress for relatives. In acute and crisis situations, family members - especially the main caregivers - are extremely vulnerable. The resulting crises are manifold: loneliness, domestic violence and neglect are possible consequences. The professional employees of outpatient care systems are often the first port of call in such crises. One of the most challenging tasks they face in performing their work is the support of those affected in these situations.

The study (in German only) entitled «Das Buchser Pflegeinventar für häusliche Krisensituationen» now provides specialists and institutions with effective tools for handling crises. Empirical data from domestic crises was collected for the first time for this study, published by André Fringer, Co-Head of the Nursing Science Research Unit at the School of Health Professions. The result is a publication that presents the most common crises and provides profound and practical interventions for their prevention and professional handling.
