School of Health Sciences

Institutes and Centres

The School of Health Sciences unites the five institutes of Midwifery, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Public Health under one roof.

Institute of Occupational Therapy

An accident or illness can restrict people in their everyday lives. Occupational therapists help those affected to learn or practise important activities: e.g. learning to cook for themselves after an accident or continuing to work in spite of a chronic illness.

Institute of Midwifery

Midwives accompany and advise women and their families during motherhood, i.e. throughout pregnancy, labour, childbirth, postnatal period and beyond. Their job is as diverse as it is challenging. Midwives work closely together with other healthcare professionals in clinics, birthing centres or as independent midwives.

Institute of Nursing

Today’s and tomorrow’s healthcare system requires registered nurses with in-depth specialist knowledge. We provide high quality and practice-oriented courses for students at the Institute of Nursing. Supporting clinical nursing research, we promote knowledge development, which serves as a reference for the teaching at the Institute.

Institute of Physiotherapy

Our Institute of Physiotherapy at ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences is Switzerland's largest institution for teaching and research in physiotherapy. We are committed to sustainable professionalisation both in our bachelor and master degree programmes as well as through research and development and academic continuing education.

Institute of Public Health

The Institute of Public Health is a national competence centre for healthcare, health promotion and prevention. It hosts the cross-professional Research Unit for Public Health, the Interprofessional Teaching and Practice Unit as well as the Corporate Health Management Unit. The first Bachelor degree programme in Health Promotion and Prevention in Switzerland started in autumn 2016.
