ZHAW digital
ZHAW digital is the driving force behind digital transformation at the ZHAW. The initiative supports, promotes and connects people and their innovative ideas, projects and plans in this area.
Objectives
ZHAW digital’s mission is to create an encouraging environment for digital transformation at the ZHAW – through funding programmes for individuals, projects and innovations as well as by supporting bottom-up initiatives at the ZHAW. By 2029, ZHAW digital aims to establish sustainable structures and expertise to equip the university for long-term digital transformation and ensure its future viability.
Focus areas
Education
ZHAW digital is pressing ahead with the digital transformation of education in close collaboration with the Academic Affairs Office. Through long-term education support programmes and interdisciplinary flagship projects, the initiative creates the optimal conditions for the development of future-oriented teaching and learning formats, and supports ZHAW staff and students in building the relevant skills.
Research
As part of the Digitalization Initiative (DIZH), research funding is a key component of ZHAW digital. Its aim is to enhance the visibility of researchers and interdisciplinary projects in the context of digital transformation, to foster connections among them, and to strengthen their impact within the university, society, and the wider scientific community.
Internal digital transformation
To ensure the university remains fit for the future, ZHAW digital supports internal transformation projects. Working together with dedicated staff and innovation initiatives, pilot projects are created whose concepts are adapted throughout the university. In this way, ZHAW digital provides a platform for the continuous development of the university.

Community
The Digital Futures Lab (DFL) is the community for ZHAW staff and students who are doing or want to do great things in the field of digital transformation. Networking within the DFL takes place at several levels. The main platform for discussions is Beekeeper. This digital interaction is complemented by in-person meetings and social events at the Nüü event space at Lagerstrasse 45 in Zurich.

ZHAW robotics
As part of the inter-university hub “ZHAW robotics”, ZHAW digital aims to advance scientific and social topics related to physical AI. With the help of a humanoid robot, the interdisciplinary discourse on the embodiment of artificial intelligence is actively promoted, pressing issues from research, society, and business are raised, and new areas of application are explored. ZHAW's involvement in the field of physical AI sharpens its profile as an innovative, multidisciplinary, and networked initiative.
"Physical AI lets autonomous systems like robots, self-driving cars, and smart spaces perceive, understand, and perform complex actions in the real (physical) world." (NVIDIA Glossary)
