One of the leading universities of applied sciences in Switzerland
The ZHAW is one of the leading universities of applied sciences in Switzerland, and this brings many advantages. At the ZHAW, you will benefit from a diverse and, in many ways, unique range of courses, as well as excellent infrastructure and a wide variety of services and activities - from events and sports to advisory services. In addition, the ZHAW has strong links internationally. The University fosters a personal and welcoming atmosphere. Everything is close together, and students have direct contact with their lecturers.
A degree from the ZHAW provides you with a strong foundation so that you can fulfil challenging roles in industry, in banking and insurance, in health professions and social care, in research, or in administration at cantonal or federal level, to name but a few examples. Whether you are starting in an SME or looking to progress in a large company, or perhaps start your own business after graduating, the ZHAW provides you with the tools to build a successful career.
European Credit Transfer System ECTS
In order to ensure that assessment is standardised and comparable throughout Switzerland and across Europe, students' performance is rated according to the ECTS system, in addition to being graded. Each module carries a certain number of ECTS credits. One credit is awarded for a workload of 30 hours (contact time and self-study). You are required to gain 60 credits per year. For a Bachelor’s degree, the total number of credits required is 180 and for a Master’s degree, a total of 90 to 120 credits is required (depending on the programme). This corresponds to a workload of around 1,800 hours per year.
