WeTakeCare
Collaborative interaction in caring & training to improve the autonomy in Activities of Daily Living
Description
WeTakeCare project aims to empower the collaborative caring and training between an elderly person and their non-professional care-giver, in order to promote independent living of the older person. Hence, the autonomous performance of Activities of the Daily Living (ADL) by the elderly person will be encouraged while training and supporting the caregiver in the provision of care, improving the quality of the provided care as well as safeguarding their own physical, physiological and occupational health. The target users are people aged 50+, presenting an initial loss of capabilities and/or having a light to moderate physical disability. A loss of capabilities increases difficulties to perform ADLs, leading to a more frequently poor execution of ADLs and in result to the taking-up of the ADL by care-givers. This uptake of ADL leads to an over-care situation, which can ultimately diminish autonomy of the elderly person.WeTakeCare will develop an interactive and multimodal system for the training on ADLs, build mainly on software solutions running on off-the-shelve hardware equipment, including a TV, Microsoft’s Kinect, PC or computer appliance with broadband connection and a portable device as tablet or smartphone. System functionalities will be: (i) gestural controlled ADL ex-ercises with Kinect (ii) web platform with to main care-giving blogs, forums and social networks and (iii) general functionalities as agenda & reminders, communication and TV control.WeTakeCare will integrate the end-users in the core of the process, introducing their voice in the stages of definition of requirements, the concept and product development as well as in the different validations. This will ensure a functional, easy to use, intuitive, motivating and accessible service, guaranteeing product acceptance and future market penetration.
