Scaling Smart City Projects - from Individual pilots towards a Common strategy of industry Emergence (SPICE) (SPICE)

Description

In the SPICE project "Scaling Smart City Projects - from Individual pilots towards a Common strategy of industry Emergence", UniFR, HSG and ZHAW analyse the problems for scaling Smart City (SC) solutions from different perspectives. The aim is to accelerate the scaling of SC solutions and the formation of an SC industry in Switzerland in order to increase innovation, efficiency, social welfare and quality of urban life. To this end, strategies, tools and instruments for scaling SC solutions will be identified and developed by combining and applying different theoretical perspectives of empirical and transdisciplinary research. Scaling approaches are expected in the areas of user involvement and social innovation, the design of technological solutions, persuasive business models and coordination of technological development, as well as establishing overarching sectoral structures. SPICE analyses challenges on the level of citizen involvement, business models of companies, the applied technology and infrastructure as well as the structures of the emerging SC sector. Together with the participating cities, companies and networks, practical solutions are to be developed and finally brought together in an integrative, strategic approach.
