Assessment of multimodal interpreting technologies (AMIT)
Description
Language barriers in healthcare can lead to lower patient satisfaction, longer consultation durations and even lower access to medical services. To overcome these barriers and ensure proper treatment for allophone patients, healthcare professionals rely on interpreting services that are delivered in-person, via video or telephone. An additional and increasingly used option for healthcare professionals is machine translation. This project aims to assess which interpreting or communication mode is best suited in different situations and to develop guidance on when to use which communication mode and how to integrate it effectively.
