A pioneering urban neighbourhood is to be created in Viererfeld/Mittelfeld in the city of Bern. The large residential and commercial area is to be sustainable and pioneering in terms of ecological standards, with mixed-use housing and mobility also playing an important role. The aim of the project is to develop the Viererfeld/Mittelfeld site in a sustainable manner in line with the state of the art in terms of resource-saving and heat-reducing measures. The scientific support not only provides access to a broad range of expertise on sustainability issues, but also enables the exchange of experience with international networks. In order to document the effect of the measures, a measurement concept will be developed after the building application has been submitted. The city of Bern can use the measurements to gain insights into the effect of sponge city blocks and heat reduction measures, for example.
