Smart Building Information Service (SBIS): Using AI to dynamically find information

Description

LIBAL’s Smart Building Information Service (SBIS) platform uses AI for the smart collection, automatic categorisation, handover and search for information in BIM projects. An AI chat-bot supports people to quickly find information to better manage buildings and ESG reports over the whole life cycle. Management Summary Please note, the executive summary will not be published in Aramis. A huge challenge facing construction project teams and building owners is the reliable capture and hand-over of critical information to ensure buildings in society can be managed in a safe and sustainable way. The handover process is often inefficient, and data lost. New digital ways of working including Building Information Modelling (BIM) can help but also increase complexity. LIBAL aims to develop a "Smart Building Information Service" (SBIS) using artificial intelligence (AI) to support stakeholders by optimizing the processes of handover and then finding information. The main innovation focuses on incorporating AI into the LIBAL solution for document classification and information retrieval. The project focuses on two innovative use cases: 1) "Automatic Information Processing of Large Unstructured Data" to ensure data and documents in BIM projects are automatically categorized and organized using AI, and 2) "Assisted Information Retrieval" using a chat-bot to help owners and operators easily and quickly search and retrieve handover information for use in jobs and tasks. AI, will enable advanced techniques, including ontologies and large language models (LLMs), to enrich the current platform. The end goal is to develop and test a chat-bot for better information access and evaluating its efficacy with LIBAL project partners. LIBAL targets a market size of CHF 63 million/year in Switzerland with a planned revenue of CHF ≈7 million by 2028 and ≈370 customers. To reach this goal they will partner with 10 third party consultants to sell the SBIS platform to building owners, operators and construction teams. LIBAL will also increase marketing activities, public relations and their presence at trade fairs and expects significant market expansion in Germany and the EU to result in a total revenue of CHF ≈22 million/year by 2034 with a Net Present Value (NPV) for the period 2023-2034 totalling CHF ≈24 million. The project will result in 16 FTE in Switzerland by 2028.
