DME Integrity Monitoring Enhancements (DIME)
On behalf of EUROCONTROL, ZHAW is evaluating ways to ensure the integrity of Distance Measuring Equipment (DME), also in collaboration with TruNav and Honeywell International. This includes an evaluation of stand-alone DME, as well as basic strategies for sensor integration, especially with inertial sensors.
Description
This project brings together two institutions with strong backgrounds in two fields that have typically been disjoint: navigation with integrity and terrestrial navigation.
TruNav is a spin-off of Illinois Institute of Technology and will bring extensive experience in topics related to integrity monitoring and inertial navigation. ZHAW will bring its experience in terrestrial navigation, aiming to deliver a roadmap for terrestrial navigation with integrity for future users. This partnership of academic institutions will also benefit from technical consulting from Honeywell, one of the world’s leading vendors of Flight Management Systems.
The objectives of the project include
- evaluating standards-compliant DME processing for navigation integrity,
- identifying gaps and
- proposing solutions to close these gaps.
The ultimate goal is to enable development of navigation equipment that addresses known vulnerabilities in GNSS-based services with integrity performance that is viable in practice.
