Demo area Hard within PEDvolution-WIN

The Horizon Europe project PEDvolution involves both the ZHAW as a scientific partner and the city of Winterthur as an implementation partner, both of which are funded by SERI in Switzerland.

Description

The associated partners City of Winterthur and ZHAW from Switzerland are participating in the Horizon Europe project ‘PEDvolution - Interoperable solutions to streamline Positive Energy District evolution and cross-sectoral integration’. Due to the importance of positive energy districts (PEDs) for smart cities, the City of Winterthur is represented by the Office for Urban Development. The ZHAW is providing seconded staff to work on the Winterthur case study together with the Hard community and the city of Winterthur.

PEDs are the pinnacle of urban energy ecosystems. To optimally decarbonise the urban environment, it is helpful to implement fully interoperable solutions at the neighbourhood level that improve energy efficiency, integrate local renewable energy sources and surplus heat more effectively, and enable interaction with the energy and non-energy sectors such as mobility, ICT and industry.

This project will develop tools, guidelines and interoperable solutions for the planning, design, development and management of PEDs, which will be tested in the Hard-Areal neighbourhood in Winterthur, among others.
