ZHAW digital Community Awards Two Winners
For the third time, the Digital Shaper Award took place in Zurich, where the ZHAW digital community honored two individuals from its midst. Marcela Ruiz and Nicole Krüger convinced with their impact and engagement, making a significant contribution to the digital transformation at ZHAW and in society.
In the background, the Christmas lights sparkled, snow fell, and the robot bar served drinks, creating a festive atmosphere. For the third time, the ZHAW digital community voted on who would receive the Engagement Award and who would receive the Impact Award this year. The community was launched in 2020 to bring together digital shapers at ZHAW and facilitate exchange. Since then, it has grown to over 300 people from all departments and organizational units. All ZHAW employees who are concerned with digital transformation or want to actively shape it are welcome. In addition to a platform for exchange, the initiative ZHAW digital offers its members support and networking opportunities, such as workshops and events.
The Impact Award goes to...
Marcela Ruiz from the ZHAW School of Engineering. She is a pioneer in democratizing software development. As one of the first DIZH Fellows, she is committed to lowering the barriers to entry for non-programmers. Her goal is to empower people of all backgrounds to use the new possibilities of software production and prepare the next generation for a digitized future. Her professorship, projects, and fully booked No-Code/Low-Code workshop at the ZHAW digital anniversary event exemplarily demonstrate how she drives innovation and social change.
The Engagement Award was received by...
Nicole Krüger from the University Library. She is a driving force in promoting Open Educational Resources (OER) at ZHAW. With her expertise and enthusiasm, she and the OER team tirelessly advocate for making teaching and learning materials freely accessible and individually designed. Her commitment is evident in the organisation of workshops, her presence at community events, and her active role on Beekeeper, the internal communication platform of the community. Nicole has not only enriched the community but also sustainably promoted open access in education.
Strong Top 3
The community nominated and voted diligently for other individuals. For example, Anne Catherine Giesshoff from the Department of Applied Linguistics was nominated in both categories and made it into the top 3. She drives the digital transformation forward with her research in the field of Extended Reality, among other things. Also in the top 3 are Wolfgang Schäfer from the School of Management and Law (Engagement category) and the ICT team of ZHAW (Impact category).
