Platform economy in insurance intermediation
Description
A platform economy approach has disrupted many industries but does not yet exist in the insurance industry. The aim of this research project is to explore the potential for insurance intermediation. Insurance purchase has hurdles: limited risk awareness, financial literacy, access to suppliers and existence of information asymmetry. Insurance intermediaries effectively mitigate such hurdles and thus add significant value to customers in terms of access to coverage and increasing transparency. Therefore, it is no surprise that there is a demand for info-mediation and intermediation. However, the typical intermediary currently is a small firm, specialized on selected coverages and has a low degree of digitalization. Is a platform economy approach the solution? The project rests on the concept of business model innovation. Methods applied will include systematic literature review, content analysis, business modelling and risk analysis.
