"PRE Wädenswil – Strengthening Sustainability and Climate-Friendliness in the Value Chains of Food Produced in Wädenswil"

The Geography Research Group took over the coaching of the Wädenswil Regional Development Project (PRE). The local project initiative aims to promote local, sustainable food, the circular economy and cooperation between producers, processing, research and consumption in Wädenswil.

Result

The dossier for the preliminary assessment of the Wädenswil regional development project has been successfully submitted to the federal government. In total, the business and financial plans for six subprojects on the following topics have been submitted: climate-friendly agriculture, Wädenswil fruit beverages, local farm dairy, processing and preparation of preserved goods and meals made from local ingredients, local grain collection and drying, and the establishment of a logistics and marketing system for local foods.

Description

In the preliminary phase of the Wädenswil regional development project, it was examined how resource-efficient and sustainable agriculture could be promoted in Wädenswil and how the community between agriculture, processing, consumption, and research could be strengthened. The project pursued the following goals: 1) agricultural products are once again increasingly sold and processed directly in Wädenswil – this will increase the income and independence of agriculture; 2) a circular economy with reusable packaging and short transport distances will be established; 3) additionally, the PRE aims to promote climate-friendly and biodiverse agriculture in Wädenswil.
