Innovating of vertical photovoltaic solar panels for use in agriculture
As part of the Innovation Check, we are researching market entry strategies for Agri-PV systems with vertical, bifacial PV panels at ZHAW.
Result
As part of the project, we conducted a stakeholder analysis and interviews with experts and farmers. The findings indicate that Swiss legal frameworks need to be adapted in the future to facilitate the deployment of Agri-PV systems. Furthermore, we demonstrated that there is significant potential for farmers, especially when combined with pilot projects already being implemented in collaboration with universities.
Description
As part of the Innovation Check, we at ZHAW worked on the development and further refinement of vertical Agri-PV systems. These systems are based on vertically mounted, bifacial PV panels that generate electricity while allowing efficient use of agricultural land.
Working on this project, with input from an implementation partner, has demonstrated that Agri-PV systems are a technically promising solution. Our goal is to leverage the insights gained to further develop this technology and optimize it for practical application.
