Screening, Treatment and Costs of Chronic Kidney Disease in Switzerland
Description of the frequency of screening for chronic kidney disease (CKD) and the health care costs of CKD patients in Switzerland
Description
In patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), the performance of the kidneys is impaired. The disease is divided into five stages and can progress to renal insufficiency (requiring dialysis). CKD is associated with a significantly higher risk of death, mainly due to cardiovascular disease, and a lower quality of life.
Diabetes and arterial hypertension are among the main causes of CKD. In view of new, more effective therapies, the benefits of early detection of CKD could be particularly great today. However, such analyses have not yet been carried out in Switzerland.
This project examines the screening frequency for CKD in at-risk patients and the costs of CKD patients in Switzerland.
