New employee at the Center for Arts Management: Dr. Laura Johanna Noll

Dr. Laura Johanna Noll joins the ZKM team as Senior Researcher and Executive Education Lead from October 1st, 2024

Dr. Laura Johanna Noll joined the Center for Arts Management on October 1st, 2024. With a doctorate in art economics, she has profound experience in research, teaching and further education at leading universities (University of St. Gallen, Copenhagen Business School), and expertise in working with renown art institutions like Art Basel, Sotheby's and Christie's.

In the new research project “Culture goes sustainable” between the ZHAW and the University of Lausanne, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), Laura J. Noll holds the role of Executive Education Lead and Senior Researcher. At the ZKM, she is also head of the CAS Kulturmarketing.  

During her studies in Cultural Management at Zeppelin University, Laura J. Noll gained practical experience at renowned art institutions such as the Pinakothek der Moderne, Galerie Nordenhake and Sotheby's. Following her master's degree, she worked for two years in communications and development at Karl & Faber Fine Art Auctions. 

Between 2018 and 2023, Laura J. Noll was a doctoral student and postdoctoral researcher at the University of St.Gallen (HSG): As a doctoral student, she researched value and price formation at international art auctions. As a postdoctoral researcher, she founded the Competence Center for Art+, a center for art (market) research at the HSG, for which she led applied research projects with international art institutions such as Christie's, Grisebach and Art Basel. At the same time, she taught in teaching and further education on the subjects of art economics, scientific research methods, price management and marketing.  

Laura J. Noll has presented at international research conferences such as The Association for Cultural Economics International, The International Art Market Studies Association, European Marketing Academy and The American Marketing Academy, and has published with Springer Nature, among others. Her particular research interests include the future viability of art institutions, the value and price of art, and the behavior of key art market actors such as (female) artists, collectors and investors. 

In addition to research and teaching, Laura J. Noll worked for five years as study director and project manager for executive education at the Institute for Marketing & Customer Insight at the HSG. She designed and led various training courses and is now an expert in communication and marketing, with a focus on the arts and creative industries.

Complementing her work at the ZHAW, Laura J. Noll has been project manager at the Art x Science Office of the University of Zurich (UZH) since February 2024 and represents the art at the UZH from the art collection of the Canton of Zurich.
