Improving orthopaedic solutions using Artificial Intelligence
ZHAW CAI partners with company Leg&airy to revolutionize orthopaedic solutions. Combining body scanning, 3D printing and AI we aim at reducing time required to fit and deliver orthopaedic devices.
Fitting orthopaedic devices is currently a long process where experts manually adjust the device to the subject body shape. In some cases, this makes that orthopaedic devices are no longer suitable by the time they are supplied to the user. The ZHAW Centre for Artificial Intelligence (CAI) collaborates with the company LEG&AIRY to use artificial intelligence to reduce the duration of the fitting process. This time reduction will enable a faster delivery of orthopaedic solutions and allow specialists to devote more time to their patients.
We are developing a process in which the orthopaedic device is automatically fitted using 3D scans of the body, computer-aided-design, and artificial intelligence. An initial evaluation of suitable AI approaches for this purpose has been completed by the ZHAW CAI thanks to funding by the Innosuisse Innovation Booster-Databooster. A follow-up project for implementing the entire process for the AI-driven fitting of orthopaedic devices is currently in preparation.
