Bachelor student honored with ZHAW SDG Award
Tomorrow's companies will have to work more sustainably than those of today. So now is the right time to find innovative solutions – and why not do it during your studies? For his outstanding Bachelor's thesis, former ZHAW student Nicolas Müller has now received the ZHAW SDG Award.
Müller, who completed his Bachelor's degree in International Management at the ZHAW School of Management and Law, received the award for his thesis "Sustainable Investing in South American Lithium: Development of a Quantitative Framework for Sustainable Investment Decision-Making".
Based on extensive literature research, Müller developed an Excel tool for assessing the sustainability of lithium mining in South America in his thesis and then validated and adapted it with experts. The bachelor's thesis applies the tool to two case studies and shows that the current methods of lithium extraction are not sustainable; it also presents specific recommendations for improvements.
From a list of almost 40 theses, Müller's work has now been awarded first place in the ZHAW SDG Award. The award ceremony will take place at the Swiss Green Economy Symposium at the end of August.
