The specialization “Financial Management” focuses mainly on accounting, controlling, auditing, and finance. It will enable you to manage a company’s finances in ways that are fact-based and sustainable.

What You Will Learn

Entrepreneurial decisions are meant to lead to financial success. Specializing in Financial Management will help you make such decisions by giving you sound specialist knowledge and analytical skills for financial and sustainable corporate management combined with an in-depth understanding of modern software tools (data science and analytics).

You will learn to present the asset, financial, and earnings situation of organizations in accordance with the rules and understand the function and responsibilities of auditing. In addition, you will be able to lay the groundwork for financial planning and control on which to make decisions. As an expert in corporate finance and value-based corporate management, you will also gain an overview of the demands of the capital market and regulators. Finally, you will be able to evaluate companies and identify levers to increase their value.

Your professional expertise will include the use of modern financial management tools to take advantage of opportunities for digitalization and make them profitable. Strong interdisciplinary skills are essential for responsible, sustainable corporate management and will round off your professional profile.

Your Career Prospects

As a graduate of the specialization in Financial Management, you will be qualified to work in the finance departments of companies and organizations in any industry. You could be part of the company's financial management and work as a team leader or subject matter expert. In this role, you will deal with topics in finance and accounting, as well as financial reporting and controlling. Financial analysis may also be part of your role.

If you prefer to look at a company's finances from the “outside,” then you may choose to work in auditing or business consulting. The fiduciary sector is also an exciting field of activity in which graduates of thespecialization in Financial Management can be found.

Program Structure and Admission Requirements

As Flexible as You

About one-third of classes are devoted to the specialization by deepening students’ knowledge of financial management. The program takes six semesters to complete as a full-time and eight as a part-time course of study. A qualification in financial management will also make it easy for you to enroll in recognized industry-specific continuing education programs. For example, you can become a federally certified auditor, tax expert, or expert in accounting and controlling. In addition, the specialization prepares graduates for advanced international qualifications such as Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified International Investment Analyst (CIIA), and Certified International Wealth Manager (CIWM).
