CCBIO Publication featured on the Front Cover of the Journal “Angewandte Chemie”
A recent work by the CCBIO-group on the use of engineered squalene-hopene cyclases for the synthesis of fragrance molecules is featured on the front cover of “Angewandte Chemie”.
Pure isomers of ionones are important molecules for the fragrance industry. In particular, α-Ambrinol is on demand due to a woody, tobacco- and musk-like smell. The natural (S)-(+)-γ-dihydroionone is isolated for example from Ambergris a waxy substance produced by the digestive system of sperm whales. Our publication in “Angewandte Chemie” describes an enzymatic approach for the synthesis of this compound.
