Section of Medical Micro- & Molecular Biology

The focus of the research group is the development of diagnostic tests in microbiology. We cover the entire spectrum from diagnostic candidate selection, candidate production, screening and test evaluation to the prototype production and diagnostic tests. A particular focus of our group is on immunological methods (ELISA, IFA, EIB, LFA) for the detection of parasitic infections in animals and humans.

«Crucial for an antimicrobial therapy are reliable, rapid and targeted diagnostics; our ambitions are innovative test systems.»

Dr. Ramon Eichenberger,  Head section Medicinal Micro- and Molecular Biology

About us

In a biomedical context, the long-standing expertise of our group in basic and applied research combines the competences of cell culture techniques in microbiology (especially different bacteria, protozoa and helminths), antibody production (poly- and monoclonal in different host systems), protein engineering, recombinant technologies, protein purification and fractionation, up to test designs. The excellent infrastructure of the well-equiped laboratories covers all these different aspects. In particular, the coating of rapid tests for prototype experiments is a special feature.
