Take a closer look - INSIDE PREFS

Our student Emanuel Hitz talks about his motivation to study the MSc PREFS!

“In the food industry I worked since 2006, where I started as a chocolate technologist in manufacturing. After 6 years I’ve had seen the production from the inside enough and decided to do a bachelor’s degree in food technology. After that, I worked in food raw material distribution for 5 years and still do part-time.

My motivation to study this master’s program is driven by my increasing knowledge about what’s going wrong in the global food system. I wanted to learn more about regenerative agriculture and about the industry as well as consumer sciences and psychology. I aspire to be a part of the system transformation towards a regenerative and sustainable approach on a large scale – with the industry. Because in my eyes, there is where we have the most leverage.

About MSc PREFS I like most, that it holds a lot of freedom to put together your curriculum very individually according to what you want to do with it afterwards. In my case, I want to embrace my role as a consultant even more as I am a generalist with a very broad knowledge all around the food system and the ability to connect different people and companies. The PREFS master’s degree allows me to tie in with my existing experience, expand my network, and work on topics that I’m passionate about.

If friends ask me what I study in this master’s program, I tell them, that I develop a better understanding on the product journey of food from farm to sewage treatment plant, including the consumer psychology, and how change in corporates can be achieved”.
