Environmental and Social Assessment at Mine Sites using Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics

The Responsible Mining Foundation and ZHAW seek to develop practical tools and methods for the assessment and monitoring of ESG impacts at and around mine sites, to complement the data and evidence disclosed by companies (and government, when available) already analysed and assessed in the RMI Report. The project covers several fields and methods;1. GIS and remote sensing methods and data for mine sites2. Environmental assessment methods and data for mining companies and commodities3. ESG data, financial and non-financial ratings and indices for mining companies and for commodities 4. Analysis of investor data to track shareholders of mining companies;5. Review of academic research and data for spatial identification of mine sites, in light of integration into the project.
