Zebrafish larvae for drug screening
Beschreibung
In this 3RCC-funded project, we aim to reduce the number of rodents employed for the screening of novel antimicrobials using a zebrafish larval model of bacterial infections. We will set up live microscopic imaging readouts to monitor bacterial spread in zebrafish larvae and will use the model to screen novel, bacteriophage-derived antimicrobials regarding efficacy. This will allow to select drug candidates for further preclinical development in zebrafish larvae rather than rodents, thereby significantly reducing the number of mice normally used for this purpose.
