Marker
Marker on the technical center building
The markers on the technical center building are part of the EU research project HumanTech. Data collection on existing buildings or on construction sites and their automatic further processing into models in digital construction/BIM are tested.
What is BIM?
BIM stands for “Building Information Modeling” and includes the models and processes of digital construction: With this collaboration method, everyone involved in the construction works at the same time in the same coordinate system. All planning and execution statuses are available as digital models and can therefore be compared at any time.
Ideally, the BIM model is maintained as a digital twin of the building during the use phase and is then available for facility management as well as later conversion or upgrading. The federal government and all federally affiliated companies have been using BIM for their real estate since 2021 and for their infrastructure systems from 2025.
What kind of project is this?
The focus of this sub-project of the IMS is the drone-assisted measurement of building facades using photogrammetry in order to ultimately develop automated processes for the integration of a wide range of measurement data into the BIM model.
The photogrammetric survey generates a current BIM geometry model of an existing building, which can then be supplemented with other models, e.g. supporting structure or building services. It works similarly on construction sites, where construction progress can be recorded precisely on a specific date.
How does this work?
Black and white patterns are used so that the data acquisition systems, like our measuring drones, can orient themselves spatially. The information from the GPS signals is too imprecise and not available at all when used indoors. The black and white patterns are simply attached to position markers that are measured by surveyors. These markings are available specifically for various digital construction applications.
Position marker
The position markers are already regulated in a preliminary standard, which Ruprecht Altenburger's working group also helped to develop: "Position markings for digital applications on construction sites, for structural monitoring and BIM applications (CEN Workshop Agreement 18046)".
A video introduction and downloadable material are available on the Internet. The original text of CWA 18046 can also be obtained there: https://www.bimprove-h2020.eu/marker/.
