Data Science
Data is the basis for many products and services that determine our everyday life. With the MSE in Data Science you have all the methods and tools to design and use state-of-the-art data products.
Professional career outline
Professional data scientists are contributing to the design, development and deployment of so-called data products or data pipelines in enterprises and public institutions. The Swiss employment landscape offers you jobs in data engineering, data analysis or data services. From the collection and processing of data, to machine and deep learning or developing data products – you will find the challenges and opportunities to shape your future in nearly every industry.
Profile contents
The MSE profile Data Science is based on three thematic pillars:
- Data analytics
- Data engineering
- Data services
Details can be found in the profile description.
Institutes and centres
Applying for the MSE you chose an institute to study Data Science. The institutes interpret the profiles individually.
Institute of Applied Mathematics and Physics (IAMP)
Institute of Data Analysis and Process Design (IDP)
Institute of Computer Science (InIT)
Institute of Mechatronic Systems (IMS)
Institute of Embedded Systems (InES)
Institute of Sustainable Development (INE)
Institute of Computational Physics (ICP)
Institute of Signal Processing and Wireless Communications (ISC)
Professional skills
Graduates from the MSE in Data Science are able to apply statistical methods to describe and explore data as well as to draw conclusions from them. By using data mining, machine learning and deep learning you will build data-driven models. You will organise the collection and sourcing of application-related data from heterogeneous origins. Moreover, you will be capable of planning and organising the storage of such data. Developing applications able to process data streams, extract features and apply models on it will be another of your competences. You learn to understand business needs in terms of data pipelines and turn analysis results into actions. Besides that, you understand non-technical constraints related to ethics, privacy, security and safety while processing data in enterprises and public institutions.
