Detailed admission requirements for students holding a bachelor’s degree from a foreign university
Please note that the processing time for your application is approximately two months. We recommend registering as early as possible to allow sufficient time to obtain a visa if necessary.
Admission Requirements
- An excellent bachelor’s degree in an engineering field, corresponding to Swiss grades A or B according to the ECTS grading scale (top 35%). See the ECTS grading scale for details. Students from abroad are expected to have achieved at least a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 80%.
- Diplomas and official transcripts from all attended universities (in the original language and, if necessary, translated into English, French, or German), including an overview of the university’s grading system and the final achieved grade.
- Resume/CV.
- Statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) focusing on your research interests and long-term goals. Please also indicate a preferred institute or center you would like to join. More information about the institutes and centers can be found on our website (see above).
- Proof of English language proficiency at a C1 level, such as Cambridge Advanced (CAE), BEC Higher, IELTS level 7, TOEFL 95, or TOEIC score 780. You do not need to provide an English language certificate if you are a native English speaker or have completed a bachelor’s degree in an English-speaking undergraduate program. The English language certificate must be submitted at the start of the admission process.
- Two letters of recommendation from professors or supervisors who can assess your technical knowledge.
- Proof of at least one year of relevant work experience in a closely related field (considered an advantage).
- If you hold a bachelor’s degree from a university outside the EU/EFTA, the GRE General Test (see GRE) is considered an advantage.
- A copy of your bachelor's thesis may be requested during the admission process.
