First workshop on fairness of algorithms took place in Zurich
On June 8 and June 9, 2022, 48 researchers gathered at the first European Workshop on Algorithmic Fairness (EWAF’22). This research field revolves around the question of how fairness can be understood and evaluated in the age of algorithms. As such research often focuses on North America, the workshop’s goal was to bring the European research community together and discuss issues that are more relevant in the European context. Many researchers came to present their current work and connect with researchers working on similar topics. The topics discussed ranged from philosophical accounts of fairness to concrete cases of (un)fairness, for example, in Italian car insurance.
The event was hosted by the Zurich University of Applied Sciences and took place at the Digital Society Initiative in Zurich.
