Project example: METPEX
In the context of the EU project METPEX, the ZHAW School of En-gineering is working together with numerous partners to develop a transport system that will meet the economic, social and ecological demands of society. The focus is on ensuring good accessibility and safe mobility for all EU citizens, and for senior citizens in particular. Future trends and challenges must be taken into consideration as well.

In order to create a more efficient, top-level transport system and better understand the problems and obstacles facing passengers, the METPEX (A MEasurement Tool to determine the quality of the Passenger EXperience) project’s aim is to develop a measurement tool for the complete door-to-door public transport experience. The personal experience of passengers from planning all the way to their destination will be considered, too. Travel data will also be collected with the measurement tool. In the future, transport providers, political decision-makers, vehicle manufacturers and municipalities will be able to evaluate their transport performances based on travel data and improve the transport system and its efficiency with specific measures.
The Institute of Sustainable Development (INE) at the ZHAW School of Engineering placed the focus of the METPEX project on socio-economic factors and space utilisation. The project is investigating how these affect transport performance and accessibility. The INE is also involved in the development of the measurement parameters for the METPEX measurement tool.
