2nd Wifi HaLow in Europe Workshop
Discover Wifi HaLow:
Wifi HaLow is specially designed for IoT and smart devices. It offers significantly greater range than conventional Wifi standards, as well as higher data rates than other wireless technologies for large-scale IoT networks. During the "2nd Wifi HaLow in Europe Workshop," you will have the opportunity to learn about practical results from ongoing university projects. Take advantage of this chance to discuss the current state of developments and potential applications of Wifi HaLow with experts. Participation is free of charge.
Program (subject to change)
13:15–13:30 | Arrival & Coffee
13:30–13:40 | Welcome & Introduction by ISC/InES
13:40–14:20 | "Results from Tests with the Newracom NRC7394 Wifi HaLow SoC"
Speakers: Toby Barnes (ZHAW), Vixay Phimmasane (ZHAW), Luciano Sarperi (ZHAW)
This presentation will showcase the findings and insights gained from tests conducted with the Newracom NRC7394 Wifi HaLow SoC using a point-to-point link between two evaluation kits. In the first part, measurements on signal bandwidth, duty cycle, data rate, and link budget (sensitivity/range) will be presented. The second part focuses on the system’s real-world performance in buildings and in urban outdoor environments.
14:20–15:00 | "Covering an Area with TCP/IP using Wifi HaLow"
Speakers: Nico Sieber (BFH, Biel), Tim Hürzeler (BFH, Biel), Rolf Vogt (BFH, Biel)
With Wifi HaLow (IEEE 802.11ah) devices from Anjielosmart, it is possible to achieve outdoor data rates of over 1 Mbps at distances of approximately 1 km, while complying with European regulations. Thanks to an integrated relay function, 2-hop routes are also possible, with one device functioning as both STA and AP. This study examines how seven devices can be positioned so that an eighth, mobile device can establish an IP connection to the root device from anywhere in the coverage area. Data rate, MCS, RSSI, and energy requirements were recorded in three different outdoor environments (field, forest, city).
15:00–15:20 | Coffee Break
15:20–16:00 | "Wifi HaLow SmartMeter Adapter: First Steps Student Project"
Speakers: Lucas Huber (BSc, FHV student), Michael Spiegel (BSc, FHV student), Prof. (FH) DI Patrick Ritschel (FHV)
A master’s project at Fachhochschule Vorarlberg (FHV, www.fhv.at) aims to develop a Wifi HaLow Smart Meter adapter with an M-Bus interface from scratch. By the time of the presentation, initial hardware and radio tests will have been completed. The speakers will report on the challenges encountered during the development and setup processes, as well as present the first results of radio and power consumption tests.
16:10–16:40 | Tour of the ZHAW Institute of Embedded Systems (InES)
16:50–17:20 | Tour of the ZHAW Institute of Signal Processing and Wireless Communications (ISC)
From 17:20 | Aperitif in Building TN/TS
