Development of a prototype of low-tech, space-efficient soilless cultivation (aquaponics) for refugee camps in Jordan

Webinar Series on Aquaponics, Aquaculture, and Hydroponics

Presently, global malnutrition impacts around 2 billion people, leading to micronutrient deficiencies (commonly known as "hidden hunger") and obesity issues for 0.5 billion adults. Despite global efforts, progress towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2.1 and 2.2—ensuring access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food all year round and eliminating malnutrition—has been limited (FAO, 2018). Transformative approaches in agriculture are thus urgent.

Innovative, climate-smart, and water-saving technologies like hydroponics, bioponics, and aquaponics (i.e., the combination of recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) with hydroponics) hold immense potential for both rural and urban settings.

Together with the European Engineering Learning Innovation and Science Alliance (EELISA), we are preparing a series of webinars focusing on capacity building for soilless technologies (aquaponics, hydroponics, bioponics). The webinars provide the theoretical background for future operators/owners of aquaponic/bioponic systems, especially in arid countries. They will be held every second Thursday at 9:00 CET (10:00, Jordan time) starting on the 25th of April 2024.

The schedule of the webinars can be found below:
